Guided dives are so much easy for the diver. Everything is arranged for you. Your equipment is there and your guide knows the spot where you enter the water. You don’t have to find out wich dive spot you have to go and all the safety materials are close by like the first aid kit and the oxygen kit. Even the guide has a dive flag with him/her. Underwater you don’t have to navigate so you have maximum time to enjoy your dive and encounter a lot of things. This makes your diving all by all relaxed and safe and a lot of fun.

There are lots of things to encounter during your dives at Curaçao. It doesn’t matter if you do a guided dive or your open water dives. You always will encounter a lot of creatures and corals at the reef of Curaçao. The best thing of diving is that you can come really close to nature. And sometimes the creatures come to you. The reef of Curaçao has a lot to offer, and a lot of dive sites can be done from shore. So the rest of the family who don’t dive can stay at the beautiful beaches waiting till you come back from your great diving experience.

During your advanced open water course you have 3 optional dives. One of your options is the DPV ( diver propulsion vehicle) dive. You will learn the basic skills neccessary to operate the DPV, and then you go. It’s so much fun to do!! During this specific dive we encountered a lot of turtles. Luckily you can also stop the DPV, so you can watch them :-)) using a DPV might come in handy on dives where the reef is not so close to shore. You can use it to bring your buddy and yourself to the reef faster so you have more time to enjoy yourselves looking at the corals.

One of the great adventures of diving at Curaçao is the wreck dive to the “Superior  Producer”. You can do it as an guided dive from shore or as one of the dives during your advanced open water course. Entering the water from shore and go under in to the deep is an adventure on it’s own. Diving in to the deep and see the wreck pops up in all it’s glory. Covered with corals and a lot of sealife around it. Laying at the bottom now for 38 years, it became one with the ocean around it. Definitely a must see!!

When you visit Curaçao, you should at least try diving. If you have never done it before  try a discover scuba dive maybe you like it so much that you want to start  your open water course straight away. If you are already certified you can do guided dives or a follow up course like advanced open water diver. Also you can do a lot of specialties. You see there is a lot of diving to do at Curaçao. During these dives you will see a lot of our beautiful reef and al it’s creatures. You can do it with the whole family. Kids can start when they are 8 years old with bubble maker and sealteam. when they are 10 years old they can start with junior open water.

It’s so much fun to do your open water course at Curaçao.  Even when you are doing learning how to do your  skills you are already in between the sea creatures. This because Curaçao has lots of bays with swimming pool conditions, so we are allowed to do the pool sessions there. The creatures are curious to see what your are doing in their backyard. For them your the strange one blowing bubbles and make strange moves and noises. During your dives you get more comfortable using the gear and get more control over you buoyancy. The more relaxed you become the more time you have to really look around and discover what’s surrounding you.

Doing your open water diver course or advanced open water course can be a lot of fun. You learn a lot of skills to handle problems under water so your dives will be safe and comfortable. Also you see a lot of new things, the under water world is an complete different one then the one you are  used to. All kind of corals and animals with their own color and camouflage. also a lot of different behaviors. When you do more and more dives on your own or guided, you will spot a lot of new things and started to look at behaviors of animals. Diving is such a fun experience.

Last weeks during our guided dives at a beautiful dive site of Curaçao, we encountered a lot of green turtles. They are amazing creatures of the sea. If you spot them, don’t approach them from behind. They will swim very fast away because they think they are going to be attacked. If you want to get close, make first eye contact with them from two meters next to them. They decide then if you can come closer. Don’t  use selfie sticks, the animals don’t like that. If you can not come close to them, leave them alone. All the movies we shoot is with a GoPro in our hand at close range. One turtle even thought he could eat my red filter.. (There is of course no guarantee we encounter a turtle during our dives, they are free to move over our reef and away from us at any time)

During guided dives or open water courses or discover scuba dives we encounter a lot of sea creatures. sometimes we are very lucky. Then we encounter spacial ones at one day during two different dives. How about the Spanish lobster? Or underwater cockroach as many people call him :-)) The frogfish, who created us with a bored jawn. Looks like he wanted to tell us ‘I’m not impressed by you divers’. A seahorse is always beautiful to see, and the leopard flatworm is so gracious in its movements we can keep following it when we see it, which is very rarely.

Looking forward to our dives today……

It is so much fun to get your junior open water diver diver certification at Curaçao. You see a lot under water and when you have your certification you can dive with your parents, if they have their open water diver  certification also. You see some special things together and have a lot to talk about afterwards . What a great way to spend your holiday together. Diving is fun for the whole family, from young till old. There are so many different dive sites on the island so you can discover them all and their inhabitants. ” Dive More From Shore”.

Sometimes during diving you must be very lucky to see what’s on your bucket list. Some search for frogfishes, other for turtles. The last one is less difficult then frogfishes. You have to be lucky to be on the right dive spot at the right time. Last days we had those lucky moments during our guided dives. We spotted a lot of green turtles. some turtles even start to recognize us, they swim towards us and swim a little bit along. It’s still a beautiful moment when that happens. Even when you spot them every day. They are amazing animals.

During your vacation you can do a lot of things, one of them is diving. Curacao has a lot of shore dive sites to try. You can also do a lot of courses or specialty diving.  One of the possibilities is Invasive lionfish tracker. Here you learn a lot about the lionfish and why we have to control it at our reef. After doing your dives and exam you get your official padi certification as an invasive lionfish tracker. If you’re lucky during your training you catch a lot of them. After you cleaned them you have a good dinner at the BBQ
