Anja Diving

After years of seeing first just her husband and later also her children diving, this year Anja decided to try diving herself. Together with Petricia she did a Discover Scuba Dive. After the briefing at the dive center we went to the beach where we took all the time Anja needed to get control of her breathing through the regulator. At first it was a bit scary for Anja, but after a few times trying to snorkel with the regulator in she got the hang of it and we descended.

Because we do shore dives we can descend very shallow, which makes it easier to equalize the ears. Little by little Anja got more relaxed and started to enjoy her dive. Especially when we found the little seahorse! Who knows, in 2 years, when Anja comes back to visit the island she might do her Open Water course and start diving with her family!

fabienne diving

Fabienne

Last year Fabienne started diving, she did the Junior Open Water course with us. This year she came back for some more diving. She choose to do the Junior Advanced Open Water course, to enhance her diving skills. The deep dive was less scary as expected by Fabienne, she brought our instructor back to the beach during the Navigation dive (even though she doubted the compass for a little while) and she had a lot of fun during the PPB and DPV dives. See her diving with the Diver Propulsion Vehicle in this little movie partly shot by her father.

Tonight the last dive of the course is scheduled, the night dive. After this Fabienne will be a certified Junior AOW-diver, who will continue diving as much as she can. We enjoyed diving with you Fabienne, hope to see you again in 2 years!

Diving fun at curaçao

After hearing stories from their family about diving-fun-at-Curacao this father and his 2 sons wanted to see for themselves. And they had a blast, the boys even said this was the most fun activity they had done during the whole vacation they spend on island. We did a Discover Scuba Dive with them last Tuesday. Diving is relaxing and shows you a complete different world. Diving between the fish, looking at moray eels, playing with the air bubbles, everything is fun. Did you know that if you start the Open Water Course with a group you get a discount on the course fee? Why wait, get a group of friends together and come diving with us!

Diving with Claudia at Curacao

Today we did a Discover Scuba Dive with Claudia., a guest that came to us via Don Genaro Curacao Appartements. After a briefing at our dive center we went to Lagun for the actual dive. First we did a couple of exercises on the surface, such as recovering the regulator and clear the mask. After snorkeling a little bit so Claudia could get used to breathing from the regulator we decended. Claudia did the exercises again underwater, without any problems. After this we did a fun tour to a maximum depth of 7 meters. Claudia relaxed enough to be able to really enjoy the dive, she even spotted the Octopus you will see in this movie!

Claudia regretted doing the Discover Scuba Dive so late in her stay on island. She promised to come back to the island next year and do the Open Water course!

If you come on vacation to the island and are interested in doing a Discover Scuba Dive, don’t wait until the last couple of days but do it early in your vacation so you have time to do more diving!

Kimberley diving

Even if you come to the island to do a course that has nothing to do with diving at all, you can manage to get in some dives. Kimberley went diving with us in between here follow up course on Ergo therapy. First she came with a friend for a Discover Scuba Dive for the friend on which she joined as a guided dive. After this dive Kimberley went diving with us for 2 more dives on different dive sites. This movie is the movie Leroy made diving with Kimberley, so see Kimberley diving!

Mischa diving

Recently Mischa came to us to do his Advanced Open water course. Diving with Mischa was a lot of fun. Mischa did the deep dive and navigation dive, which are mandatory. Besides these dives he chose to do a Search and Recover dive, a Diver Propulsion Vehicle dive and a night dive. In this movie you see Mischa diving and some of the creatures/fish he encountered during his dives.

Rob’s encounter during a dive

Every once in a while we make a fun dive ourselves. This time Petricia had a new camera to take pictures so Rob and she went out to test it. Of course Rob brought his own camera as well and whilst Petricia took pictures Rob filmed. During this dive we were lucky to encounter not only turtles, but also 2 frogfishes and some seahorses. All of this not deeper then 9 meters/27 feet. Who said you have to go deep to encounter beautiful things during your dive? Not us, we prefer the shallower dives, where we are always amazed by the diversity of creatures we encounter.

You want to try to encounter these creatures as well during your guided dive? Come dive with us and we will help you find them. We can never guarantee you will encounter anything  though, but we give it our best try!!

Safety during your dive

Safety during your dive is always the most important part. This is why you do the buddy check and dive within the No decompression limits and within the depth limits of your certification. You might even bring a Surface Marker Buoy with you to raise before you ascend at the end of your dive, like you have learned during your Open Water course

In some countries, like here on Curaçao, a SMB is not enough. You have to be visible during your whole dive or snorkel tour. A very nice item to buy and take on your next dive vacation, to ensure more safety during your dive is the Pocket Buoy, as shown in the movie. Light weighted, easy to carry with you and easy to use.

Stijn diving at Curaçao again

Last year Stijn did a Discover Scuba Dive with us. He was so enthusiastic after this dive and he decided to do the jr. Open Water Diver course in the Netherlands. There he did the confined (pool)sessions and theory, but for his open water dives he came back to us earlier this year. We call this Referral dives. Together we did all the necessary exercises in open water and had a lot of fun diving. After being certified Stijn and his father joined us for some Guided Dives as well.

Last week Stijn happened to be on island again for a couple of days and of course he and his dad came to us for a guided dive again, this time joined by an uncle who also is a certified diver. We enjoyed the dive very much and hope to see Stijn and family often for more dives!

Diving with a Eagle Ray

One of the best moment you can have during your dives is encountering a spotted eagle ray close. Its amazing how they move true the water. They almost don’t move but you have to speed up. Al the spotted eagle rays are different on the back. Some have dots, other have circles and stripes and we even spotted them in braun in stead of white spots. They are amazing creatures. Some times during the diving we also spot them eating. They shovel their nose in to the sand to find their food. Next time we maybe will encounter them, when we are diving together.

Frogfish during diving

During our dives we encounter always something special. if it is during a discover scuba dive, open water course, specialties or just guided dives, it doesn’t matter. When Petricia is diving at one of our beautiful dive spot she always find her frogfish back. You can find them in different colors. They are masters in camouflage. When we spot one we are still excited about it. It’s always fun to share it with your divers. Some times the don’t see what you pointed out for them and then you explain it after the dive. Hopefully we will a lot more in the future.

Clean up and diving

Last weekend the 4th of july we had as CHATA Dive taskforce  a clean up at playa “piskado”. There where a lot of volunteers to help out above water and underwater. Also a lot of things where sponsored by companies. Divers where diving and collecting a lot of debris in the water from tin cans to fishing lines and tires. All was recorded on film and photo by Turtle&Ray Productions HD. You can also hire them to make a video of you during your dives, if you do an open water course, discover scuba dive or guided dive. The clean up was a big succes we had more then 130 volunteers to help the CHATA Dive taskforce to accomplish this goal.. Up to the next one.. Be project Aware….
