CHATA Dive Task Force Beach clean up, 4th of July 2015

Followers of our blog might have noticed I did not write that much the last few weeks. Blame it on the fact I became a grandmother of a beautiful baby girl named Skylar Rose, who completely changed my world for a while.

But now I’m back, and I promise I will try to write more regularly again. Let’s start with a little something we took part in on the 4th of July.

As you all now we are part of CHATA’s Dive Task Force and with us several other dive schools. One of the things we do is organise clean ups together. The first clean up we organised was last year november, when we cleaned Boca Sami on the surface and of course underwater. This time we chose a dive site more to the west of the island, Playa Piskado.

This time again we cleaned on the surface and underwater. We were all very pleased to see such a big group of volunteers show up. In total there were around 130 volunteers, 100 divers for the underwater clean up, 30 for the surface. What pleased us to see is that visitors to the beach spontaneously started to help as well.

Every dive school briefed it’s volunteers and off we went to clean. Divers went into the water to remove fishlines, cups, cans but also pipes and tires. On the surface it was mainly plastic dishes, cups, beer  bottles what we found.

After about an hour and a half of diving and cleaning all divers where back on the surface. Now it was time for a raffle with prices sponsored by the dive centers and a BBQ. We all enjoyed the good food en drinks, which were also all sponsored. Turtle and Ray joined and made a video and pictures of the whole event, also at no charge.

All in all we had a great day, and we will certainly organise more of those. Thanks to all sponsors and volunteers for joining us in our quest for a cleaner Curaçao!!
